Eastern Africa – an imposing and unspoilt environment. This is an unforgettable trip where we focus on the magnificent natural world at the heart of this impressive area. To acclimatise, we begin by climbing Little Meru at 3820m and then Mount Meru at 4566m both of which are situated in remarkable and little visited surroundings. At the bottom of the mountains are huge equatorial forests full of all kinds of animals; buffaloes, zebras, gazelles, small and large monkeys and of course their predators. Several
armed rangers accompany us on this climb to avoid any unfortunate encounters but don’t worry - we’ve never had any problems! Our goal is the conquest of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5895m, ascending by the Machame route and descending via the Mweka route. This will be the climax of our visit into deepest Africa with the added satisfaction of walking on the roof of the continent. A day’s safari in the Arusha park after Meru and two days in the Tarangere and N’Gorongoro parks after Kili, will provide us with a welcome rest and further introduction to this extraordinary natural environment.
