Just above the Arctic Circle lies Maniitsoq where this trip will take
place. It is a region that is particularly well-suited to skiing. For those
of you who have already come with us to Norway, you will find the
same kind of Nordic atmosphere here – magical light and mountains
rising up from the sea but it is also wilder and more rugged with lots
of polar wildlife.
Over 6 days, we will explore new slopes up above the fjords as we
search for scenery that will take our breath away and the best snow
that there is.
Our base is the Kissavik, an old 25m fishing boat with 2 2-berth
cabins and an 8-berth dormitory, 2 bathrooms and toilets, a living area
and a dining area. She has been re-equipped for cruising in arctic
waters! A real floating refuge, she sails to a different drop off point
every day.
The standard of the boat is very reasonable. What’s more, the crew’s
hospitality, the chef’s talents and the friendliness of the captain, Jess,
are a wonderful surprise.
The 8-berth dormitory does not leave much room for privacy but this
is the equivalent of a floating “mountain hut”. Where possible, we
save the 2-berth rooms for couples if they are available.
The climbs, ranging from 800m to 1300m in vertical begin at sea level
and we choose the length and difficulty of the climbs according to the
technical and physical level of the participants.
